The Assam government announced a new flagship programme for meritorious students called Arohan scheme in its cabinet meeting held on 25th June ,2022.
Arohan Scheme Assam is a new scheme and you might have a lot of questions on it. This post intends to answer all your queries on this new flagship programme for the students of Class 9 to Class 12.
WHAT IS AROHAN SCHEME ASSAM?
Arohan Scheme Assam is mentor-mentee programme for the talented students of Class 9 to Class 12 of Assam where a mentor will guide upto 5 students for 4 years on various skills and development.
Arohan Scheme Assam will start from the academic year 2022-23 and is proposed to be launched on 15th August, 2022. The Assam government has allocated a budget of ₹5.96 crores for this scheme or project.
SCHOOLS ELIGIBLE FOR AROHAN SCHEME ASSAM
The following schools are eligible for Arohan Scheme Assam.
- Government Schools
- Provincialised Schools
- Adarsha Vidyalays
- Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBV)
In Assam, there are a total of 4,375 schools of the above mentioned categories. As per the cabinet decision 4,375 students will be selected under the Arohan Scheme. So, from each school 1 students will be selected.
STUDENTS SELECTION FOR AROHAN SCHEME
In this section, I will provide the student selection criteria, numbers, etc for Arohan scheme.
TOTAL STUDENTS TO BE SELECTED UNDER AROHAN SCHEME ASSAM
Arohan will cover 4,375 students from secondary classes of Govt/Provincialised Schools, Adharsha Vidyalaya and KGBV. For details of schools eligible you can refer to the previous section.
As there are a total of 4,375 schools, so 1(one) student from Class IX of each school will be eligible under Arohan Scheme.
BOYS, GIRLS RATIO IN AROHAN SCHEME
Under AROHAN, the selection of boys and girls will be 50:50. So, the number of boys and girls for this flagship programme will be as follows.

BENEFITS OF AROHAN SCHEME
The duration of Arohan Scheme Assam will be 4 years i.e from Class 9 to Class 12. Each year a total of 4,375 students will be selected from Class 9 from 4,375 schools spread across Assam.
During this 4 years period, each student will have a mentor to guide them through this period on various skills. Apart from these money will be provided to each student directly to their bank accounts for a period of 4 years.
Apart for this these students will be eligible for various scholarships of Assam government and Indian government.
MENTOR SELECTION FOR AROHAN SCHEME ASSAM
AROHAN is a mentor-mentee programme for talented students. Under each mentor there will be upto a maximum of 5 students or mentees.
The mentors will guide the students, enhance their skill, etc during the 4 years period. So, selection of mentors is critical for the students under AROHAN.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR AROHAN SCHEME
From the cabinet decision, I can guess the eligibility criteria for Arohan Scheme will be as follows.
- Students of Government schools of Assam will be Eligible
- Equal numbers of boys and girls will be selected.
- Remote, Rural and Poor Talented students will get more preference.

IS AROHAN SCHEME GOING TO REPLACE ANUNDORAM BAROOAH AWARD
As, you know from this academic session i.e 2022-23, all schools in Assam will follow New Education Policy (NEP). So, there will be no Class 10 examination. Hence, providing Anundoram Borooh Award to Class 10 students does not arise.
So, Arohan Scheme is the replacement of Anundoram Borooh Award.
