Agriculture plays a vital role in the economy and life of people of Assam. To boost the productivity of agricultural produce, modernization of agriculture and incentives to farmers Assam Agriculture Schemes plays an important role.
There are many agriculture schemes of Assam provided by the government of Assam and India. Some schemes like PM-KISAN are well known but many others are not. This post intenets to provide a comprehensive list of all the Assam Agriculture Schemes.
ASSAM AGRICULTURE SCHEMES 2022
Assam has a geographical area around 78.43 lakhs hectares or 586.26 lakhs bighas. Out of which only 32% is used for agriculture. Rice is mostly grown along with cash crops like jute, tea, oil seeds, sugarcane, potato, etc is also grown.
To boost the productivity of agricultural yield, the government of Assam has come up with many agriculture schemes from time to time.
In this section, I will provide an overview of all the Assam Agriculture Schemes till date. More schemes will be added now and then. So, keep visiting this section.
PM-KISAN
PM-Kisan is one of the most popular Assam agriculture schemes. It is also known as the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme and 100% centrally funded scheme started in the year 2019.
Under PM-Kisan Scheme Assam, the farmers are paid an amount by the Govt. of India for their agriculture expenses during 3 crop seasons.
Small and Marginal Farmers are paid an amount of ₹6000 in 3 installments under this scheme. The amount is directly transferred to the bank account of farmers or their family. The family in this scheme are either husband or wife or minor children.
MUKHYA MANTRI KRISHI SA SAJULI YOJANA (MMKSSY)
Mukhya Mantri Krishi Sa Sajuli Yojana (MMKSSY) is one of the Assam agriculture schemes 2022 launched in the 2018-19 by the Assam government. The main purpose of this scheme is to provide modern farm tools to the farmers.
At present, the usage of modern farm tools are rarely used by the farmers of Assam. So, through these schemes, the Assam government will provide farm tools and scientific tools in cultivation.
MMKSSY Assam agriculture scheme is also known as CM Farm Tool Scheme.
NATIONAL FOOD SECURITY MISSION (NFSM)
National Food Security Mission (NFSM) is one of the biggest Assam agriculture scheme to make Assam a food security state. It aims to boost the production of rice, wheat, pulses and commercial crops by millions of tons.
NFSM has 5 components as listed below.
- NFSM-Rice
- NFSM-Wheat
- NFSM-Pulses
- NFSM-Coarse Cereals
- NFSM-Commercial Crops
Under this Assam agriculture scheme, the farmers of Assam gets seeds, fertilizer, farm tools, etc at 50% discounted rate. Moreover, crop failure insurance and free training is provided to the farmers.
NATIONAL MISSION FOR SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE (NMSA)
It is one of the important Assam agriculture schemes to enhance agricultural productivity. National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture (NMSA) aims at promoting sustainable agriculture through focusing on 10 key points.
This mission will include
- Improve crop seeds, livestock and fish cultures
- Water Use efficiency
- Pest Management
- Improved Farm Practices
- Nutrient Management
- Agriculture Insurance
to meet sustainable agriculture in Assam.
PARAMPARAGAT KRISHI VIKAS YOJNA (PKVY)
Paramparagat Krishi VikasYojana(PKVY) is one of the Assam agriculture schemes related to organic farming. It is a sub scheme underNational Mission for Sustainable Agriculture (NMSA).
PKVY was launched during 2015-16 to encourage farmers to take up organic farming. Under this scheme farmers are organized into clusters to adopt organic farming.
In this Assam agriculture scheme,10 districts were taken on a pilot basis. 220 culture was formed with an agriculture area of 10935 acre or 33,000 bighas of land.
PRADHAN MANTRI FASAL BIMA YOJNA (PMFBY)
Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) is an important Assam agriculture scheme that aims to expand crop insurance in Assam. It was launched in the year 2016 in Assam.
PMFBY is a scheme that provides crop insurance and financial support to farmers if any crops listed by governments gets destroyed by natural calamities, pests and diseases.
Moreover, this Assam agriculture scheme aims to stabilize the income of farmers and motivate them to continue farming.
PRADHAN MANTRI KRISHI SINCHAYEE YOJANA (PMKSY)
This Assam agriculture scheme will ensure physical access of water to all the agricultural land and expand the cultivated area of Assam.
Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) consists of the following components.
- Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme(AIBP)
- PMKSY (Har Khet ko Pani)
- PMKSY (Per Drop More Crop)
- Watershed Development
RASHTRIYA KRISHI VIKASH YOJANA (RKVY)
Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) was launched by the Government of India in 2007-08 to achieve 4% annual growth in agriculture sectors.
This agriculture scheme incentivizes Assam to increase public investment in agriculture and its related sector. It also aims to maximize returns to the farmers, increase crop yield, etc through various Assam agriculture schemes.
SUB-MISSION ON AGRICULTURE MECHANIZATION (SMAM)
It is one of the most important Assam agriculture schemes for the farmers who cannot afford to buy agricultural tools even after compensation by the government. Sub-Mission On Agriculture Mechanization (SMAM) enables the farmers to hire agricultural tools and machines.
Under this scheme the following centers are made available for the farmers to hire machines and tools.
- Village Level Farm Machinery Bank (VLFMB)
- Custom Hiring Centers (CHC)
- High Tech Hubs (HTH)
NATIONAL MISSION ON OILSEEDS AND OIL PALM (NMOOP)
It is only the Assam agriculture scheme which aims to increase the production of edible oil crops in Assam. It has two sub-missions under it as listed below.
- Oil Seeds
- Oil Palm
Under Oil Seeds mini mission crops like
- Mustard
- Rape
- Sesamum
- Ground Nut, etc
are listed. New varieties of Rape and musturs has been introduced under this mission.
Oil Palm was introduced in the year 2014-15 in the district of Kamrup Metro and Goalpara on pilot basis.
RURAL INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT FUND (RIDF)
Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) is a big scheme of the government of India with 39 eligible activities. These 39 eligible activities broadly falls under 3 categories
- Agriculture and Related Sector
- Social Sector
- Rural Connectivity
One of the Assam agriculture schemes under RIDF is installation of shallow tube wells (STW) with Diesel Pump Set, Electrical Pump Set and Solar PV Powered Set. Farmers or Group of farmers having 15 bighas(2 hectare) of land are eligible for the scheme.
CHIEF MINISTER SAMAGRA GRAMYA UNNAYAN YOJANA (CMSGUY)
Chief Minister Samagra Gramya Unnayan Yojana (CMSGUY) is an scheme of the government of Assam which aims for all round development of villages in Assam. There are many Assam agriculture schemes under CMSGUY.
Under this scheme, tractors and their accessories are provided to the farmers at subsidized rates. 70% subsidy is provided subject to a maximum of ₹5.5 lakhs.
Tractors are provided to a group of adult farmers comprising 8-10 members under a revenue village. The group should have a common bank account.
BEE KEEPING SCHEME
Bee Keeping Scheme is an Assam agriculture scheme under Mission for Integrated Horticulture (MIDH). In order for pollination support to horticultural crops this mission is an important agriculture scheme of Assam.
The responsibility of coordinating this bee keeping scheme of Assam is versed on Sate Designated Agency (SDA) along with National Bee Board (NBB).
