The date of district day celebration in Assam will be based on the date of creation of the district. And if no date of creation of the district is available, the date of joining of the first Deputy Commissioner will be celebrated as District Day.

Date of District Day Celebration in Assam
The date of district day celebration in Assam of a particular district will be based on 2 criteria. They are listed below.
- Date of creation of a particular district will be celebrated as District Day by all the 35 districts of Assam.
- If no notification of creation of district is unavailable, then date of joining of first Deputy Commissioner in the district will be celebrated as District Day by the district.
Purpose of District Day Celebration in Assam
There is a good purpose of district day celebration in Assam by all the districts. Some of the purposes are listed below.
- Since District Day will be celebrated with involvement of local people, it will bring a sense of enthusiasm among the people.
- It will provide a step towards improving administration and public relations.
- District Day will also be the day for giving awards and recognition to the people of the district for their unique contribution.
Date of District Day Celebration of All the Districts of Assam.
The creation day of each district is different from the other. Each district has a unique history and culture associated with it.
Before the independence of 1947, there were 13 districts in Assam. It rose to 35 districts by 2022. The lasted created district in Assam is Tamulpur district.

Baksa
The Baksa district was created on 1st June, 2004. So,1st June of every year will be celebrated as Baksa District Day.
The Baksa district was formed from the territory comparing portions of Barpeta, Nalbari and Kamrup District.
Barpeta
The Barpeta district was created on 1st July, 1983. So,1st July of every year will be celebrated as Barpeta District Day.
In 1983, Barpeta district was carved out of the old Kamrup district.
Biswanath
The Biswanath district was created on 15th August, 2015. So,15th August of every year will be celebrated as Biswanath District Day.
Biswanath district was created by amalgamating Gohpur, most of the part of Biswanath sub-division of Sonitpur district.
Bongaigaon
The Bongaigaon district was created on 29th September, 1989. So,29th September of every year will be celebrated as Bongaigaon District Day.
Bongaigaon was created from parts of Goalpara and Kokrajhar District.
Bajali
The Bajali district was created on 12th January, 2021. So,12th January of every year will be celebrated as Bajali District Day.
Bajali district is the 34th district of the Indian state of Assam. It was carved out of Barpeta district. The Assam Cabinet headed by former Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal approved the proposal to make Bajali a full-fledged district on 10 August 2020. On 12 January 2021 Bajali was formally declared as a district.
Cachar
The Cachar district was created on 6th February, 1874. So,6th February of every year will be celebrated as Cachar District Day.
Cachar was one of the 13 districts of Assam that existed before the Independence of 1947. Cachar was rebuilt as a district by the British in 1874.
Charaideo
The Charaideo district was created on 15th August, 2015. So,15th August of every year will be celebrated as Charaideo District Day.
Charaideo was carved out of the Sivasagar district of Assam. Sonari is the headquarter of this Charaideo District.
Chirang
The Chirang district was created on 4th June, 2004. So, the district day celebration in Assam for Chirang district will be 4th June of every year.
Chirang district was carved out of Barpeta and Bongaigaon District of Assam. It is one of the 4 districts that fall under Bodoland Territorial Area District (BTAD).
Darrang
The Darrang district was created on 1st July, 1983. So,1st July of every year will be celebrated as Darrang District Day.
Dhemaji
The Dhemaji district was created on 14th October, 1989. So,14th October of every year will be celebrated as Dhemaji District Day.
Dhubri
The Dhubri district was created on 1st July, 1983. So,1st July of every year will be celebrated as Dhubri District Day.
Dhubri District was curved out of Goalpara district.
Dibrugarh
The Dibrugarh district was created on 2nd September, 1971. So,2nd September of every year will be celebrated as Dibrugarh District Day.

The Dima Hasao (North Cachar Hills) district was created on 2nd February, 1970. So,2nd February of every year will be celebrated as Dima Hasao (North Cachar Hills) District Day.
On 1 April 2010, the Name of North Cachar Hills district changed to Dima Hasao.
Goalpara
The Goalpara district was created on 1st July, 1983. So, the district day celebration in Assam for Goalpara district will be 1st July of every year.
Golaghat
The Golaghat district was created on 15th August, 1987. So,15th August of every year will be celebrated as Golaghat District Day.
Hailakandi
The Hailakandi district was created on 29th September, 1989. So,29th September of every year will be celebrated as Hailakandi District Day.
Hojai
The Hojai district was created on 15th August, 2015. So, the district day celebration in Assam for Hojai district will be 15th August of every year.
Jorhat
The Jorhat district was created on 15th August, 1947. So,15th August of every year will be celebrated as Jorhat District Day.
Kamrup
The Kamrup district was created on 3rd February, 2003. So,3rd February of every year will be celebrated as Kamrup District Day.
Kamrup Metropolitan
The Kamrup Metropolitan district was created on 3rd February, 2003. So,3rd of February every year will be celebrated as Kamrup Metropolitan District Day.
Karbi Anglong
The Karbi Anglong district was created on 2nd February, 1970. So,2nd February of every year will be celebrated as Karbi Anglong District Day.
Previously Karbi Anglong was known as Mikir Hills. It’s name was changed to Karbi Anglong in 1976.
Karimganj
The Karimganj district was created on 1st July, 1983. So,1st July of every year will be celebrated as Karimganj District Day.
Kokrajhar
The Kokrajhar district was created on 1st July, 1983. So, the district day celebration in Assam for Kokrajhar district will be 1st July of every year.
Lakhimpur
The Lakhimpur district was created on 2nd October, 1971. So, 2nd October of every year will be celebrated as Lakhimpur District Day.
Majuli
The Majuli district was created on 27th June, 2016. So, 27th June of every year will be celebrated as Majuli District Day.
Morigaon

On July 1, 1983, Sivasagar was declared a district in its present form after Jorhat and Golaghat subdivisions of the district were carved out from the undivided Sivasagar district and were made two separate districts.
Sonitpur

South Salamara-Mankachar
