For the first time in the history of Assam, the Assam Government conferred its highest civilian award to 19 persons on 24th January 2021. Assam Gaurav Award is one of the categories of the Assam Civilian Award given to persons from diverse fields.

Assam Gaurav Award was given to 13 persons for the year 2021. The contribution of the 13 awardees of the Assam Gaurav Award is worth mentioning and you definitely need to know. It will be an inspiration to you.

In this post, I will provide everything you need to know about the Assam Gaurav Awards for the year 2021. I provide the details of each awardee and their contribution to our society for building a brighter Assam 

Assam State Civilian Award

The Assam State Civilian Award is conferred in 3 categories- Assam Vaibhav, Assam Saurav and Assam Gaurav. Most of the awardees of the Assam Gaurav Award are from the grassroots level. They were selected through a citizen-centric process for their distinguished service to society.

Assam Gaurav Award with other civilian awards of Assam was announced on 2nd December 2021. It is proposed to be given every year on 2nd December. But for the year 2021, this award was given on 24th January 2022.

Assam Gaurav Award with other categories of Assam State Civilian Award 2021 was given on 24th January 2022 in Shrimanata Sankardev Kalakshetra, Guwahati. Hon’ble Governor of Assam Prof Jagdish Mukhi and Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma gave the awards.

Assam Gaurav Civilian Award of 2021

Assam Gaurav is the 3rd category of highest Assam State Civilian Award. It is given to the persons in recognition of their outstanding contribution in different fields. Some of the fields to mention are as below.

What is given in the Assam Gaurav Award?

In Assam Gaurav, 3 things are given to the awardee. A cash price of ₹ 3 lakhs is given. Along with it a certificate of recognition and a medal are also given.

Assam State Civilian Award 2021

All the awardees of the Assam Gaurav Award contributed immensely to our society. Their recognition by the Assam Government is applaudable. Their work is an inspiration to all the people of Assam. So, I will provide some details of their contribution.

Aksah Jyoti Gogoi

Akash Jyoti Gogoi got the Assam Gaurav Award 2021 for his agro-business company which deals in the production of famous “Bahubali” eggs. His company name is East Agro Product & Services which produces 50,000 eggs per day.

Bahubali eggs are high in protein, that’s why they got the name. They use layer farm techniques with modern technology and layer hens. Their farm has generated local employment and the farm has a chicken feed producing unit.

Dr. Asif  Iqbal

Dr. Asif Iqbal is a Hematologist and Hematologic Oncologist. He has experience of 12 years in this field. He now is working in Dr B.Borooah Cancer Institute (BBCI), a public cancer hospital.

He is a well known Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Expert. Assam Gaurav Award for 2021 was given for his recognition of conducting a number of successful Bone Marrow or Stem Cell transplant surgery.

Barmita Momin

Barmita Momin is an ASHA worker. ASHA is the grassroot level worker in the health sector of any state in India. 

As an ASHA worker, she played a vital role in the vaccination drive in her village. She was successful in removing superstitious belief in forest dwellers of Phuloguri Garo Gaon of Sonitpur regarding the COVID Vaccine. This way she was able to get the whole village vaccinated. For, this contribution Barmita Momin got Assam Gaurav Award 2021.

Dr. Basanta Hazarika

Dr. Basanta Hazarika is a pulmonologist and a professor of Pulmonary medicine in Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

Dr. Basanta Hazarika was awarded Assam Gaurav Award 2021 for efficiently managing 3000+ critical COVID patients. He was also involved in the preparation of treatment guidelines and conducting training on COVID Management for doctors and paramedics.

Boby Hazarika

Boby Hazarika is a women entrepreneur who started a food delivery service in Tinsukia Town. She hails from Margrethia town of Assam. During the lockdown, she started food delivery service through her Self Help Group.

At present is supplying lunch box to Bank, Govt. Offices, etc in her vicinity. She also supplies Assamese traditional food-pitha and laru to bakeries at very reasonable prices.

She is an inspiration to all the women in Assam. Bobby Hazarika is a role model for Women’s Empowerment in Assam and all over India. For this purpose, she was given Assam Gaurav Award 2021.

Dharanidhar Boro

Dharanidhar Boro is a retired Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF) of Manas Tiger Reserve. As a Forest range Officer back in 2008, he was well recognized. He was courageous, hard-working and didn’t hesitate to risk his life for the conservation of rhinos and other wild animals. 

For his effort, he got many awards. One of the major awards was the Real Hero Award by CNN-IBN in 2008.

Dharanidhar Boro was conferred Assam Gaurav Award 2021 for his key role in preventing poaching at Kaziranga and Manas National Park.

Hemoprabha Chutia

Hemoprabha Chutia was awarded Assam Gaurav Award 2021 for her contribution to weaving. She weaved the Assamese version of Gunamala & Namghosha on cloth. She also weaved many religious scriptures in cloth. 

Some of her contributions are

  • English Version of Bhagavad Gita on cloth from 2018-2021
  • Sanskrit version  of Bhagavad Gita on cloth
  • Gunamala, Naam Ghosa, Mod Bhagavad-Gita Mod on cloth from 2013-2018
  • Naam Ghosa on cloth in 2016

Earlier she won many awards including state level award from the Directorate of handloom & textiles, Assam in 2016, Bakul Bon Award, Aai Kanaklata award, etc.

Kalpana Boro

Kalpana Boro is an Angawadi worker of Udalguri district of Assam. She is known for building close and harmonious relationships in the community.

Kalpana Boro was conferred Assam Gaurav Award for her great performance in providing Supplementary Nutrition and regular monitoring of children with Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM).

Kaushik Boruah

Kaushik Boruah is the CEO and Co-founder of Kiega Exims Pvt. Ltd. It is a company that deals with supplying and exporting agricultural products of Assam to foreign countries.

He was awarded Assam Gaurav Award 2021 for his contribution to the entrepreneurship of his exporting business. He exports Assam agriculture products are listed below.

His main exports these Assam’s products to countries like UK, Italy, Frankfurt, Saudi Arabia, Dubai and Qatar.

Khorsing Terang

Khorsing Terang is a mountaineer from Karbi Anglong District of Assam. He was awarded Assam Gaurav Award 2021 for climbing Mount Everest in 2016. He also scaled several peaks and mountains in the Himalayan region.

He succeeded in reaching the top of Mount Everest in 2016 in 45 days from Kathmandu in his 2nd attempt.

Manoj Kr Bosumatary

Manoj Kr Bosumatary was given Assam Gaurav Award 2021 for his contribution in the field of Pig Farming. He was instrumental in creating the “Pink Revolution” in Assam.

He is the founder of Symbiotic Food Pvt Ltd. It is a pig rearing-cum-breeding farm with a special focus on ensuring sustainable economic growth of the tribal people in pig farming. This created employment for more than 130 people in his area i.e Balipara-Ghoramaria area of Sonitpur district.

Munindra Nath Ngatey

Munindra Nath Ngatey is a civil servant of Assam and presently the director of Health Services (Family welfare) of Assam.

He was awarded Assam Gaurav Award for the pivotal role he played in the management of COVID-19 vaccination drive in Assam.

Namita Kalita

Namita Kalita is a nurse (ANM-Auxilary Nurse Midwife) of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). 

Namita Kalita got the Assam Gaurav Award 2021 for administering the highest number of COVID vaccination. She vaccinated 99,822 doses of COVID-19 vaccine. See your COVID vaccine certificate, if her name is there in the “Vaccinated By” column, then you have a reason to smile.

Conclusion

The Assam Gaurav Award will serve as an inspiration to the entire society. Their work will bring the hope of inspiration to others to the cause of building Assam. Even a grassroot worker and a farmer are included in the Assam Gaurav award.
