ORDER OF E-TICKETING MACHINES
The Transport department of Kamrup Metropolitan District has issued an order to make e-ticket in Guwahati city buses mandatory. The order was passed on 15th October, 2022.
The order read as
“It is a general information dispatched to all owners and association of city buses that from 1/11/2022 onwards buses will not be allowed to ply on the road without e-ticketing machine for issuing e-ticket to collect fare from traveling passengers”
DECODING THE ORDER OF GUWAHATI CITY BUS E-TICKET
The order was addressed to 2 types of entities.
- Guwahati City Bus Owners
- Associations of City Buses of Guwahati
Every Guwahati city bus will have to carry E-Ticketing machines from 1st November, 2022. No city bus will be able to operate if not done.
Every passenger will get an e-ticket once they board the bus in Guwahati .
WHAT IS E-TICKET?
E-Ticket generally refers to the ticket that is issued online. You can book yourself an e-ticket through a website or e-portal.
But the concept of Guwahati city bus e-ticket is totally different.
In e-ticketing of Guwahati city bus, evey conductor or handyman of city bus will have to carry an e-ticketing machine. This machine will be purchased by the bus owner from the government or Guwahati Transport Office.

Once the passenger boards a bus, the conductor will enter the source and destination in the e-ticketing machine and the ticket will be printed from the machines.

The problem lies that the city bus is run on a rental basis by the staff of the buses. The staff i.e driver and handyman have to pay a daily fixed amount to the bus owner. The conductor or handyman collects fare from the passenger.
He/She pays around ₹1500-₹2000 / – on a daily basis to the bus owner. The amount remaining is distributed among the bus staff. So, the driver and conductor are not paid a monthly salary.
But, once e-ticketing system is launched, the fare collected will be transparent for everyone. So, the bus staff have demanded a monthly salary.
So, as of now we think monthly salary for bus staff will be paid but how much it is decided is still not known to us.
