GUWAHATI ROPEWAY DETAILS

Guwahati Ropeway is the longest river ropeway of India with a length of 1.82 kilometers. It has two terminals or Ropeway Station as listed below.

• Lower Terminal/Station located at Panbazar in front of Nehru Park, Guwahati Main City
• Upper Terminal/Station located behind Dol Govinda Temple at North Bank of Guwahati.

GUWAHATI ROPEWAY DISTANCE

The exact distance of Guwahati Ropeway is 1.82 kilometer or 1820 meters. The cable of the ropeway is supported by 5 pillars. 

The details of pillars are provided below.

• 1 pillar at Terminal/Station located on North Bank behind Dol Govinda Mandir (Vishnu Mandir)
• 1 pillar at Terminal/Station located at Panbazar (Guwahati Main City) in front of Nehru Park 
• 1 Pillar at Umananda Island
• 2 on the river bed of Brahmaputra River.

GUWAHATI PASSANGER ROPEWAY TRAVEL TIME

To travel from one terminal/station to another station of Guwahati Ropeway. It takes nearly 7-10 minutes. So, from the distance and time taken, I have calculated the cabin travels at the speed of 10-15 km/hour. So, you can have a good aerial view of Brahmaputra River and its surroundings.

GUWAHATI PASSENGER ROPEWAY CABIN CAPACITY

There are 2 passenger cabins that can hold upto a maximum of 32 people or 2560 kgs in Guwahati Ropeway. 

The cabins are imported from Gangloff Cabin company of Switzerland. There is also a rescue system which is a self driven carriage and cabin. If the passengers’ cabins stop in the mid way, the rescue system comes to rescue the passenger cabin.

GUWAHATI PASSANGER ROPEWAY PROJECT DESIGN & EXECUTION AGENCIES

The Guwahati Passenger Ropeway is operated by Guwahati Metropolitan Development Agency (GMDA), Guwahati Development Department, Govt. of Assam.

This foundation stone of the ropeway project was laid in December of 2009 and opened for the public in August, 2020. The project was halted due to the objection from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in the middle.

GUWAHATI ROPEWAY LOCATION

There are one two passenger stations/terminal for Guwahati Passenger Ropeway. The exact location of Guwahati Ropeway Location is given below.

Guwahati Main City

It is located in front of Nehru Park, Panbazar, Guwahati City.

North Bank of River Brahmaputra

It is located behind Dol Govinda Mandir situated at Rajadwar Village, Noth Bank of River Brahmaputra.

GUWAHATI ROPEWAY TICKET PRICE

There are 2 types of tickets issued for Guwahati Ropeway from both the terminal/stations.

• One Way Ticket
• Both Way Ticket

With a one way ticket, you can only travel from one station/terminal to another termina/station. With both ways, you can travel from one terminal and come back from the other terminal with the same ticket. But, the validity of both ways is 2 hours only.

With both ways, you have to travel from one  terminal/station to another  termina/station and come back to the original terminal within a 2 hours time frame. And please keep in mind that both ways tickets will not be issued after 12:30 PM on Saturday and Sunday.

The base price of Guwahati Ropeway  ticket is ₹100 and goes upto ₹50,000 for annual ticket. For the children below 3 years old for both Indian & Foreign National and for Specially Abled, the ticket is free and for children 3-12 years old it is 50% less than adult. The price of tickets per person is provided in the table below.

GUWAHATI ROPEWAY TIMING

In this section, I will provide the opening time and closing time of Guwahati Ropeway. You can visit during this time to travel in the cabin after buying tickets and security checking. 

GUWAHATI ROPEWAY OPENING TIME & CLOSING TIME

The Guwahati Ropeway will remain open from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. There is a lunch break or rest time for the employees i.e between 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM. The closing time may differ subject to availability of daylight. 

GUWAHATI ROPEWAY OPERATING TIME

Morning Time	8:30 AM to1:00 PM
Afternoon Time	1:30 PM to 4:30 PM

The Guwahati Ropeway will not operate between 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM due to lunch break. The operating timings mentioned in the table above are subject to availability of daylight.

GUWAHATI ROPEWAY TICKET TIMINGS

There are two ticket issue timings for this Guwahati Passenger Ropeway. They are listed below.

Morning Time	8:25 AM to 12:30 PM
Afternoon Time	1:30 PM to 4:30 PM

For ticket types and price you can refer to this section. For the weekends, i.e Saturday and Sunday, bothway tickets will not be issued after 12:30 PM. You have to buy one way tickets from both the stations/terminal.

The Guwahati Ropeway will be closed on 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month. 

GUWAHATI ROPEWAY OPERATION DAYS

Guwahati Ropeway will be operational on all days of the year from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM except 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month. But mind that the ticket timing is from 8:25 AM to 3:30 PM.

There is restriction for pregnant ladies to travel in the ropeway. The ropeway will remain closed on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month.

FACILITIES AVAILABLE IN GUWAHATI ROPEWAY

All the facilities are available in both terminals of the ropeway. There are passenger handling are, ticket counter, parking facility and public convenience area.

PARKING FACILITY

There is a big area for parking your vehicle on both terminals/stations. You can park your vehicles and travel in the cabin after obtaining tickets and doing mandatory security verification.
